VPA Survey Results & Findings

15 Aug 2024

Firstly, thank you to everyone who took the time to complete the survey. We had 62% of the playing members participate which was a great result. The feedback has provided invaluable insight to the feeling and opinions of the playing group within Victoria. There was 69% support for the levy to remain in place which will now allow us to maintain the 3 fields. Again, I would like to stress the importance of the following key factors in Werribee’s survival.

  • The levy – this plays a crucial role in our ability to sustain the fields

  • A successful Melbourne Cup – this combined with the related activities, generates 44% of Werribee’s revenue for the year

  • A focus on reducing overheads – reduced rent negotiation underway to impact 25/25 & and review of Maintence cost 24/25

  • Support from all members to play at Werribee all calendared tournaments

  • Support from all members of all functions

Unfortunately, polo is not a cheap sport but one we all love to play and maintaining the Melbourne Polo Fields is important to all us to make sure we always have somewhere to play polo.

Summary of survey

  • 92% of respondents see Melbourne Polo Fields as an important asset

  • 88% of respondents plan to support Melbourne Polo Fields

  • 62% of respondents plan to play chukkas 38% do not plan to play chukkas mid week

  • 33% of respondents plan to support Friday night league

  • 69% of respondents support levy 31% are not in support

  • 69% of respondents support retaining all 3 fields 31% are not in support

  • 48% of respondents support an increase to levy, 10% respondents felt the increase was too low, 25% respondents felt the increase too high, and 20% respondents were not in support of levy

The survey also showed a high support from the community in assistance with boards, field maintenance, tournament day assistance and social event/ planning which is exciting and something we will be exploring in more detail.

There was also high engagement for continued auctions and whilst this was highly successful financially last year raising close to $40,000 for Werribee unfortunately relied on few from within the community to donate items and purchase items making this a bi annual event at best. Corporate sponsorships along with government grants will continue to explored as additional revenue streams. 55% of respondents expressed an interest in a ball / fundraiser as an option for the irrigator which will be considered if an arrangement with WPNEC cannot be reached.

In conclusion the results very encouraging and have paved a way forward for the next season. Hopefully with everyone working together we will ensure we have a public ground and facility for years to come.

Regards,
