Melbourne Polo Cup 2026 - Update
19 Oct 2026
Melbourne Cup Tournament Update 2026Firstly, thank you to all the players who have reached out with ideas and offers to help—not only with this tournament, but also in support of Victorian polo more broadly. Our priority has been to ensure the Melbourne Cup Tournament goes ahead, so we can continue using the fields at Werribee and give our players the opportunity to start the season. While we would alllove to see the tournament host higher-goal polo and reclaim the prestige it has enjoyed in past years, our immediate focus is on running the event and keeping polo at Werribee.A big thank you to James Thomas and Ruki Baillieu, who have been instrumental in rallying teams and players. In response to the feedback and support we’ve received, the tournament will offer 8-goal and 2-goal grades only. As previously communicated, this decision reflects a number of factors, including the extended NSW calendar, Garangula’s closure and the current distribution of player handicaps within Victoria. We hope to see Victorian polo continue to strengthen in the seasons ahead. The support shown by members of EPC, Hexham, Yarra Valley and Vallex in helping field teams and kick off the Victorian season is encouraging, and we’re grateful to everyone contributing.Updated Invitation and Nomination forms attached.
