2018 Rule Changes and Important Notes for all Players and Umpires
I encourage all players and umpires to review the 2018
Rules of Polo, all changes are highlighted grey but the main changes are:
A hit in if the ball goes out over the Boards (Penalty 5 against)
No blocking - must allow the defending player to make a play on the striker in set plays i.e. knock ins, penalties
Less time for hit ins & penalties
Starting on yellow flag
Clubs and Club Chief Umpires - we ask that you please hold rules sessions for your members to explain the new rules.
All players must take the rules test, for those who have not yet completed this please
go online to take the test or attend a rules testing session in the near future.
Clubs and Tournamet Committees must ensure Incident Report forms are available at the centre table and that all incidents are recorded (including any Red & Yellow cards issued) and the Incident Report form sent to the APF and State Association. Red and yellow cards must be included as part of the umpires gear (ball bag, pick up stick etc).
A reminder to all players that they must:
Ensure they are registered before they take to the field for practice chukkas or tournaments
Make the effort to Umpire matches
Play the game and conduct themselves at all times in a sportsmanlike manner and never forget that playing the game is supposed to be fair, fun and enjoyable for all
Please enjoy your polo and get in touch if you have any questions.
Anto White, National Chief Umpire
